  1. Welp, long story short, dad couldn’t come today either (mom and I got back to Madison on Tuesday, dad and I were supposed to watch the first two episodes yesterday to catch up, but he got sick and couldn’t make it into town), and since it was just me and Arrlaari we decided I should just catch up myself today so I could get to rehearsal early (we just started rehearsals for Great Catherine).
I’d just watched the first episode about an hour ago, so I liveblogged the second episode instead on my own:
    [13:07] click
[13:07] Ah, I wondered if that was a traumatic flashback like the dream last time
[13:08] I’ll skip the OP, as much as I like it
    [13:08] (no ads either)
[13:08] She has other human friends?
    [13:09] Huh!
    [13:09] Ahahah
[13:09] “What about it?” I love it
[13:10] Kobayashi’s jealous of her social skills. This is a really interesting inversion of the usual tropes
[13:10] (also, in any other anime I’d assume that “She finally eats the roast tail” would be the inevitable stand-in for “They finally bone,” but they’ve already said outright that Tohru wants to have sex with her)
    [13:11] (non-metaphorically)
    [13:11] Inb4 applause
    [13:11] Yep
[13:11] It was pretty obvious, but still
[13:12] I like how Kobayashi is literally just a female version of the standard male anime protagonist of this genre…. she’s even a computer programmer by trade!
    [13:12] Ah yes…
[13:13] I’ve seen Tumblr gifs of her
    [13:13] Whoa
[13:14] You know, when I saw that how-they-met scene in the first episode, I wondered if it was a metaphor for a drunk one-night stand accidentally turning into something more
[13:15] Nice to know that queer fic can allegorize relationship tropes as Problematically as straight fic
    [13:15] (I kid, I kid, but still)
    [13:16] …What was that?
[13:16] Is the prank some cultural reference I don’t get?
    [13:17] Kobayashi has a well-hidden soft side
[13:18] …She recharges from an outlet?
    [13:18] That’s cute
    [13:18] Ah…
[13:18] THIS scene. I saw this on Tumblr
    [13:18] (that’s why I suggested this show)
    [13:19] I love it
    [13:19] Oh, Kobayashi
[13:20] (have we even learned Miss Kobayashi’s given name yet?)
[13:20] …A nod to GalaxyQuest there, they think the TV show of their genre is real
[13:20] (probably not a deliberate GalaxyQuest nod, but still)
[13:21] She’s gonna teach them to play Mah-jong or Go or something, isn’t she
    [13:21] …Or some other game
[13:21] Is this like the Alphabet game or something?
[13:22] Just eat her meat already
    [13:22] …Uh oh
    [13:23] Osaka?
[13:24] Ah, I saw this scene too
    [13:25] yatagarasu? That’s a Japanese folklore monster I assume
[13:25] Or if they evolved into birds
    [13:26] Awww
    [13:26] Uh oh
[13:27] Gee, this will end well
    [13:27] Dropping in at work
    [13:27] Ah, I’d only seen Kanna’s dragon form for a split-second
[13:27] Wait, can her coworker see them too? He already knows about them
[13:28] I wondered if the seesaw thing would come up again
    [13:28] Ahahah, what a visual
[13:28] A nice callback to the thing
    [13:28] Well, that was cute!
[13:28] No post-credits scene… all right, I’ll copy this over
Incidentally, I forgot to ask until now, but… now that rehearsals have begun, is it okay if we move the liveblog an hour earlier for a couple months (performances end Memorial Day weekend)?

  2. Ah, I forgot to find-and-replace the “” tags, so it mistook my username marker for an HTML tag, but it was just me talking, so no indications really required.
All right, gotta get to rehearsal. Laterz!
